The Whirligig & Weathervane Festival is truly a "home-grown" Nova Scotia phenomenon, having been created eight years ago by a small, spirited citizen's committee in Historic Shelburne, on the South Shore. Held during the height of the "fall festival summer season", it now generates annual visitors of more than 1,500 and the number of entries and entrants grows each year.  In 2007, it was named Best Community Event by the Tourism Association of Nova Scotia.

This year's Ninth Annual Festival includes more than 10 prize categories and more than $2000 in prizes!. Whirligig building workshops with master craftsman Milford Buchanan are also featured and this year's event will feature music, bright banners and food and drink at the Festival site.  To learn more about the Festival, you can read some of the may media stories about the event:
